Bookmark Videos and Streaming URLs

Standard

What is a URI Scheme?

A URI scheme is a prefix with a symbol used to identify a resource or an action on the internet. It can include a specific component following the symbol, such as a domain name or an email address. Certain URI schemes are standardized and registered, like "http:" for web pages, "mailto:" for emails, or "tel:" for phone calls.

Additionally, there are custom URI schemes that are less widely known, like "whatsapp:" for WhatsApp, "fb:" for Facebook, or "youtube:" for YouTube. These are designed for specific applications or platforms, enabling them to launch or interact with these applications.

VLC Media Player Supports URI Scheme

VLC Media Player is a widely-used open-source, cross-platform multimedia player developed by the VideoLAN project. It has extensive support for various multimedia file formats, including audio and video, as well as streaming protocols. The "vlc://" URI scheme is employed to open video files or HLS streams directly with the VLC media player.

How Using the URI Scheme Helps:

How To Use?

Instead of saving links like:
https://live-par-2-cdn-alt.livepush.io/live/bigbuckbunnyclip/index.m3u8

You can enhance your bookmarking by incorporating the VLC scheme:

Built-in Bookmark Manager

Web browsers have evolved over the years, not just in terms of speed and functionality, but also in the features they offer to enhance users' browsing experience. Among these features, the built-in bookmark manager plays a crucial role in helping users organize and access their favorite websites efficiently. In this article, we'll explore the bookmark managers in five popular web browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, and Opera. We'll also dive into how users can import, export, and shar bookmarks across different browsers.

Google Chrome Bookmarks:

Chrome's bookmark manager is a favorite among users who value simplicity and efficiency. The intuitive interface allows bookmarks to be saved, sorted into folders, and quickly accessed. A standout feature is bookmark sync, which ensures bookmarks are seamlessly available across devices when signed into a Google account.

Chrome also supports importing and exporting bookmarks. Users can export bookmarks as an HTML file, which can then be imported into another browser. This feature is particularly useful when switching browsers or backing up important links.

Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks:

Firefox offers a robust bookmarking system that includes tagging, allowing users to organize and categorize bookmarks easily. Syncing bookmarks via a Firefox account ensures accessibility across all Firefox installations.

Firefox supports both manual and automatic import/export of bookmarks. Users can import bookmarks from Chrome, Edge, or even an HTML file, making migration between browsers effortless.

Apple Safari Bookmarks:

Safari, built for Apple devices, features a bookmark manager with support for reading lists and seamless syncing via iCloud. This ensures bookmarks are synchronized across iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Safari users can export bookmarks as an HTML file, making them easy to import into browsers like Chrome or Firefox. The browser also allows direct bookmark sharing via AirDrop.

Opera Bookmarks:

Opera's bookmark manager includes a speed dial feature, allowing users to visually organize favorite sites. The Opera account enables seamless cross-device sync.

Opera supports importing bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, making it easy to switch without losing saved links. Users can also export bookmarks for backup or transfer.

Microsoft Edge Favorites:

Microsoft Edge has evolved into a powerful browser with Favorites replacing traditional bookmarks. It integrates seamlessly with Windows and Microsoft services.

Edge features a direct bookmark import tool, allowing users to import bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, or other browsers without needing an HTML file. Edge also supports exporting bookmarks, ensuring easy transitions between browsers.

How to Share, Import, and Export Bookmarks Between Browsers:

Most browsers provide an HTML export/import feature, allowing bookmarks to be transferred between platforms. Here's a general method:

  • Export Bookmarks: Open the bookmark manager, find the export option, and save the bookmarks as an HTML file.
  • Import Bookmarks: In the new browser, locate the import option, then upload the HTML file.
  • Sync Between Devices: Use built-in sync features (Google, iCloud, Firefox Sync, Opera Account) for seamless cross-device accessibility.
  • Sharing Bookmarks: Safari users can share bookmarks via AirDrop, while others can export and send HTML files.

Final Thoughts:

Bookmark managers play a crucial role in organizing web browsing experiences. While each browser offers unique features, the ability to sync, import, export, and share bookmarks makes transitioning between browsers smoother than ever. Whether you're switching browsers or simply backing up your bookmarks, understanding these tools enhances your online experience.
